Course overview
Ross on Wye is one of the finest parkland courses you are likely to find. An England Golf Championship Venue Ross on Wye Golf Club is a beautiful established parkland course set in the wooded hills above the Wye Valley.
Since its initial design in the sixties (although club history goes back to the late 1800’s), Ross on Wye has delighted golfers with its charm and challenge. The course winds through aged oak trees, natural contours and ponds, putting an emphasis on true shot-making.
Whilst the town of Ross on Wye is actually in Herefordshire, the course, set just off the M50, is actually affiliated to the Gloucestershire Golf Union and regularly appears top of county course rankings amongst tough competition.
Picking the best out of this great layout is tough, as the holes, framed by oak trees, really do make this one of the most aesthetic woodland courses you are likely to play. The 5th to the 9th provides a fun run of holes with three par 5’s and two par 3’s in a row. The course then does not let up. You can be forgiven that a card of 9 par 4’s on the back might get tiresome, but you would be firmly wrong. 16 is a fun drivable par 4 in amongst 14, 17 and 18 which all require two solid shots to get you on the dance floor. 18 sticks in the memory as this final hole can be a card wrecker with out of bounds coming into play on both sides of the fairway!
Off-site, a welcoming club with lovely restaurant, bar and practice facilities. A must if you are planning a visit to the area.
