Golf Courses in Cornwall
Are you looking for golf courses in Cornwall?
Perhaps you are planning a golf break in the region or are just browsing. This page provides you with a full list of courses in the county of Cornwall, all of which are accessible through Golf South West.
Cornwall is the UK’s southernmost county and famous for beautiful beaches, pasties and dramatic scenery. It’s also the place where many of us have spent a long weekend with family and friends or wrestled the holiday rush with a week-long caravan stay in August.
Cornwall, however, is fast becoming one of the foremost golfing destinations in the UK. The golf courses in Cornwall can rival that of other popular regions including Bournemouth, Southport, Kent and South Wales. If you are looking for a golf break or just taking in a few rounds whilst on a holiday, the golf courses in Cornwall are well worth considering.
Links golf courses in Cornwall
The north-west coastline is particularly popular with the likes of England Golf Finals host Trevose and World top 100 St Enodoc situated either side of the Camel estuary. You also have the England GolfMark winner the Point at Polzeath just a 5-minute drive from St Enodoc, complete with new, modern accommodation, leisure facilities and a stunning terrace bar with a few of the town and sea.
The whole western-Atlantic coastline is also worth considering when it comes to golf. The Cornish golf courses around St Ives, Perranporth and Newquay provide some of the finest golf the county has to offer. It is not unusual for a group to work their way down the coast taking on St Enodoc, Trevose, Newquay, Perranporth and West Cornwall in that order.
Southern golf courses in Cornwall
Heading to the very southern tip of Cornwall you will find the golf course of Mullion, situated on the Lizard. Mullion Golf Club is a links course which could be best described as Cornwall’s hidden gem. Often golfing parties will stay in Porthleven for a one or two-night stay and tackle this scenic Cornish golf course. What it lacks in length is made up for in course architecture, locality and wind! The 10th is a personal favourite as it descends into a green which is protected by a large ravine to the side of the green.
Resort golf courses in Cornwall
Did you know that away from the coast, Cornwall is still littered with golfing greats? We can’t write a page on Cornwall’s golf courses without mentioning some of the fantastic golf hotel and resorts, and perhaps the finest of these, St Mellion. St Mellion is not only a stunning 36 hole resort and home to Jack Nicklaus’s first UK course design, but it is also a 12-time professional golf tour host and has hosting winners with no less of a reputation than Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer and José María Olazábal.
Also falling into the category of great golf resorts is the luxury, cliff-top resort of Carlyon Bay Golf Club. Carlyon Bay has a reputation for luxury on and off the golf course. The uniquely designed golf course layout means you play 9 holes of cliff-top links golf before working your way inland to a more traditional parkland layout. This unique combination has made Carlyon Bay an extremely popular destination and one we certainly recommend. Thursday night stays are particularly advised to take account of the weekly golf break discount!
Why visit the golf courses in Cornwall?
Cornwall may have traditionally been snubbed when it comes to arranging golf society tours. However, with the new road infrastructure, it is now as accessible as any of the regions stated above. Approximately a 4-hour drive from London, 3 from Bristol and 4 from Birmingham, a 2 or 3-night stay in this beautiful county should be considered. The golf courses in Cornwall truly are a unique and great value offering.
