Burnham & Berrow Golf Club is a 27-hole members golf club in Somerset that has hosted many of the leading amateur golf tournaments in Britain, including the The Brabazon Trophy and The English Amateur. Part of the Atlantic links network, Burnham houses 27 holes of golf across the par 71 (6925 yard) Championship course and 9 hole, 18 tee Channel Course. The traditional links tracks 9 holes along the coastline and 9 back to the clubhouse. The wind is more than capable of swirling on the links meaning no two rounds are ever the same at this breath taking course.

From the moment you arrive at the clubhouse in the shadow of the Burnham lighthouse its evident you are stepping into a club littered with a vast history of amateur golf. Winners around this great course include famous names such as a Mr J Rose. Somerset is known for the quality of its courses in the area but Burnham and Berrow is widely regarded as head and shoulders above the rest. With many fairways and greens overlooked by sand dunes, Burnham and Berrow is the south west’s answer to Royal Birkdale and is now widely thought to be one of England’s finest links courses in the South West of England. Burnham & Berrow is the most northerly of the Atlantic Links courses and is often played alongside the Saunton golf courses during a tour.

Alternatively, Burnham is ideally located near Weston Super Mare and with an excellent links course in its own right is a great tour combination. Looking for something more bespoke? Fill out the enquiry form below.

Experience true links golf at this World leading golf destination

Situated on the scenic North Devon coast, the East Course at Saunton Golf Club stands as a testament to both golfing tradition and natural splendour. With its roots stretching back to 1897, this course has grown in stature and acclaim, particularly with its recent inclusion in the world’s top 100 golf courses.

Herbert Fowler’s touch is evident in its design. He transformed the original landscape into a challenging layout that has since seen the likes of legends such as Harry Vardon and emerging talents like Sergio Garcia. Spanning 6,779 yards, the par-71 course demands strategy, especially with holes like the 16th, aptly named ‘Fowler’, that presents its own set of unique challenges.

One of the defining characteristics of the East Course is its location amidst the Braunton Burrows. This UNESCO-recognised area boasts a diverse ecosystem, making a round here as much an experience with nature as it is a golfing challenge.

Saunton’s recent global recognition has bolstered its reputation in the South of England. As a destination, it offers a blend of challenging golf and natural beauty, making it a noteworthy stop for those touring the region. It is also not only renowned for its East Course, but with the West Course, it also stands proud as one of the premier 36-hole venues in the UK. The accolade of having two courses ranked in the UK’s top 100 is a testament to the club’s dedication to offering unparalleled golfing experiences. With adjacent courses like Royal North Devon and Ilfracombe within reach, North Devon is a truly unique golfing hotspot.

A distinctive links test through the Devon dunes

Tucked away in North Devon, Saunton’s West Course promises a golfing journey both rich in history and flush with natural beauty. While its inception in the 1930s was interrupted by wartime utilisation, its post-war reawakening has cemented its status as a beacon for links enthusiasts.

Frank Pennink, renowned for his course designs, played a pivotal role in rejuvenating the West Course in the 1970s. His vision was later augmented by Donald Steel, who meticulously relayed the greens – work he regards among his finest.

It may be more succinct in length compared to its older sibling, the East Course, but the West’s layout is nothing short of intricate. Here, burns, streams, and the ever-present dunes don’t just add to the aesthetics but significantly elevate the course’s challenge. Precision is paramount, with each hole demanding calculated tee placements and strategic approaches.

Both courses at Saunton share a reputation for having some of England’s most refined putting surfaces. But the West Course has its own unique charisma, ensuring its place alongside the East in the pantheon of great British links courses.

Golfers visiting Saunton are often struck by the West Course’s distinctive character, as it offers a perfect blend of history, challenge, and unparalleled natural beauty. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just beginning your links journey, Saunton’s West Course invites you to experience golfing in its purest form.

A piece of history, England’s oldest golf course

Royal North Devon Golf Club at Westward Ho! is the oldest golf course in England. A rolling links course offering stunning views of the Taw & Torridge Estuary and the Atlantic Ocean and a venue of real historical importance. Part of the Atlantic links network, Royal North Devon provides golfers with a true traditional links test.

The Championship course stretches out over 7,000 yards and provides a stiff test for golfers, especially when the wind blows! Ideally located in Westward Ho! near Bideford and an integral piece in North Devon’s sterling golfing reputation. Royal North Devon is as traditional a links course as you will find. Rolling fairways and bunker-protected greens, along with seaside golf makes this a course you will never forget.

Ranked in the “Top 100 courses a golfer must play in the World”, RND is simply one of the UK’s, not just the South West’s, best-golfing destinations.

RND is also home to the Taylor Par 3 course. A fun 14 hole set up built to test your short game. Worth playing if you have the time during your visit!

Current host to the Seniors European Tour. Championship links golf in its truest form

Are you looking for a links resort golf break? Trevose Golf Club is very likely the answer for your next golf trip!

View Trevose stay & play packages >

The Championship Course at Trevose is the most southerly of the famed Atlantic Links network and is widely regarded and one of the finest links golf courses in England. Currently a host venue on the European Seniors Tour and in recent years a host to huge prestigious events including The Brabazon Trophy (2008), The McGregor Trophy (2012), and the English Men’s County Finals (2017).

Trevose is more than a links course where wind is its only protection. Recent extensive course developments mean each hole has real definition and the incorporation of dunes and sand into certain holes such as the 2nd and 15th give an almost desert feel to particular areas of the course. The 3rd is a spectacular par 3 over a valley, running parrell to the beach whilst the 4th is perhaps one of the most memorable par 5’s in the South West. A risk-reward dog leg that has your approach played into the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and cliffs of Trevose Head.

Condition is generally very good 12 months of the year, but of course peaks in the summer months where Trevose is only rivaled by it’s neighbour in St Enodoc Golf Club.

After you’ve played the final 4 par, an uphill challenge to an elevated green set between the clubhouse and fairway lodges, you’ll retire to surely one of the finest clubhouse views you’ve likely ever seen. The contemporary clubhouse offers panoramic views across almost the whole course which is best enjoyed with a pint of Tribute and Cornish Pasty!

Trevose has various accommodation options on-site and a number of off-site activities including a swimming pool, tennis courts and games room. View our resort page for more info.

The South West’s finest and World top 100 course

Located on the northern Cornish coast, St Enodoc Golf Club is the #1 golf course in Cornwall and a true bucket list course for the discerning golfer. The links course is officially ranked as the 74th best golf course in the World, 29th in the UK, and 10th in England. Situated on the north Cornish coast, it boasts spectacular views overlooking the River Camel and outwards into the Atlantic Ocean.

St Enodoc Golf Club is steeped in rich history, dating back to the late 19th century, and has hosted a number of prestigious events including the English Men’s Amateur in 1999 and 2008 and the corresponding women’s championship in 2018. It has also been a regular host of the prestigious West of England Championship over the years. The course was originally designed by James Braid, a five-time Open Champion, and has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years to maintain its status as one of the premier golf courses in the world.

Courage, accuracy and concentration are a must if players want to make a good score. The latter can, however, prove a little tricky as you look out across the stunning Camel Estuary at Padstow and the Atlantic Ocean from your perfectly manicured location.

A course does not make it firmly into the World top 100 list without a number of notable holes. We could spend all day talking through the number of fantastic holes at St Enodoc, but we’ll save you some surprises for the round. That said, a few that are certainly worth highlighting.

Ask anyone about St Enodoc and they will immediately reference the 6th. It’s the one that sticks in the mind as 100 yards from the green you must navigate the largest “bunker” you are ever likely to see. This 75-foot giant dune is aptly named the Himalayas and also gives its name to the hole itself.

As you turn for the back 9, number 10 is a marmite hole for many. Personally a big fan of the tight par 4 which has a bank on the right, a snaking fairway, plus water and out-of-bounds down the left. If that isn’t enough, the green slopes from left to right and front to back making holding your approach a challenge. All of this is set against the backdrop of the famous John Betjeman church for which St Enodoc is so indelibly associated.

One final mention must go to the dramatic card wrecker of a par 5 which is the 16th. As you head for home, this 560-yard par 5 runs along the camel estuary with views of Padstow to your right… along with the out-of-bounds. The tiered green is tricky to find with bunkers and dunes left and no mans land right.

St Enodoc Golf Club is easily accessible from several major towns and cities in Cornwall, including Padstow, Newquay, Bude, Truro, Bodmin, Saltash, and Launceston. And, if you are looking for more golf during your trip, the club is only a short distance from another great course in Trevose Golf Club.

If you are planning a golf trip to St Enodoc, there are several accommodation options nearby. The Point at Polzeath offers contemporary apartments with stunning views of the ocean, while St Enodoc Hotel provides luxurious accommodation and fine dining in a beautiful setting. And for those who prefer a more traditional experience, the newly refurbished Oystercatcher, owned by St Austell Brewery, offers comfortable rooms and a warm Cornish welcome. If you’re planning to play both St Enodoc and Trevose during your time in Cornwall, the Molesworth Arms could be the best base for you.

Drop us a line with your requirements for your next Cornish golf trip and we’ll pull together a bespoke quote for you and your group to come and experience this great county and this magnificent World ranked golf course.

  • How do GSW keep money safe?

We are extremely proud of the service we provide and a large part of this is ensuring our client’s money is safe. Our practices comply with the 2018 package travel directive meaning that your money is safe with both ourselves and the venues your choose to visit.

The money for your golf break is paid into a trust account run by an independent partner, so you have peace of mind that no matter what happens, your money is being looked after.

  • What happens if we can’t go on our planned trip?

Deposits are non-refundable, but they are transferable to a new date or break. We aim to be as flexible as possible and will treat each situation on a case by case basis.

  • Can we make changes to our break?

Managing a group can be a thankless task and changes to the group leading up to your break are an accepted element. We make changes as stress free as possible (just see our reviews for evidence of this!). Changes can be made up to 6 weeks prior to your break. Some changes are unavoidable so for legitimate reasons we will endeavour to make last minute changes after this period, but as we would have paid our venues at this point, this would be at the discretion of the venue(s) you are visiting.

  • Why book with a tour operator?

Good question, could you not do this all yourself? The answer is yes you could. You are able to locate the ideal hotel with the accessibility you need to the clubs you plan to play. You could go back and forth with your target venues and line up the tee times.  You could also contact each venue individually to advise them of group number changes and requests during the build up to your trip.

    Alternatively you could;

    – Talk to us about the trip you are planning.

    – Receive quotes for perfectly crafted package meeting your ideal requirements.

    – Secure the booking with small deposits staged in a way to make your life easier as an organiser.

    – Have your funds fully insured and independently held by PTS, our client trust provider.

    – Have changes made to whole tours with just one call or email.

    – Receive exclusive extras such as free places.

    – Pay less with our packages than going direct to venues.

    Why can we do this?

Quite simply we have spent years (since 2015) forging strong relationships with hotel, golf club and golf resort venues across the South West. We are the expert tour operator for the region and are know for our high quality and personal service to our clients (just see our Google and TrustPilot reviews).

  • Who uses Golf South West?

The majority of our clients are UK based domestic travellers. We deal with groups of any size, from single travellers and couples, to large golf societies.

We also are the favoured golf DMC for the South West of England and preferred regional partner of Golf Tourism England. We regularly work with tour operators from Europe, America and elsewhere to provide bespoke tour packages allowing overseas travellers to experience the beautiful West Country.

  • How are package prices displayed on our website?

Prices on our our website are displayed in two ways. The first is on our Resort pages where pricing tables show the from prices for low, mid and high season golf stay and play package rates at golf resort venues.

The second is on our example tour package pages. There are often 4 prices shown here, two for low season and two for high season. The struck through price typically shows the highest price the tour can be and is often active over weekends in that season. The offer price is typically a mid week price.

Every tour quote we offer is bespoke and will vary based on a number of factors including the date, availability, group size, room type, time of day for the tee time, etc… Our package pricing is a guide to the cost of the package and is not a firm price. Please enquire for an exact cost.

We aim to provide as accurate a price as possible and therefore try to avoid using shoulder/mid season pricing or twilight green fee rates when displaying rates. You may find an intermediate price for breaks in months of April & October at certain venues.

  • Why are golf resort prices the same as elsewhere?

Put simply, all tour operators work from the same contracted rate card when it comes to stay and play golf resort packages. When it comes to golf tours, that is a different matter, but golf resorts are a level playing field.

If you find a vastly different price, it’s likely you’ve been misquoted and usually this does come back to bite.

The question this poses is why book a stay and play golf break with Golf South West if you can book direct or with one of the large operators and receive the same price?

Benjamin Franklin once said “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after
the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

We have a small team so booking through us means you receive a personal service. You are more than just a number to us, we are a tour operator where you will likely get to deal with the same contact throughout the process, who will get to know you and your group and respond efficiently to your queries.

We know our venues and the people who work there. This ensures a smooth process from initial enquiry to the end of your stay.

Financially you have an extra layer of protection as your money is securely stored in an independent trust account and is fully insured when it is released to the venue(s) you are visiting.

We are fortunate to have some exclusive “extras” with selected venues across the South West. We offer 1 in 16 free on every trip AND run an exclusive voucher scheme for our stay and play client bookings.

We often feel we add further value to our clients when it comes to our bespoke golf tour packages, but you can rest assured that when making a stay and play golf resort booking, Golf South West will offer you an extremely high level of service, financial protection and may even offer you a saving or an exclusive extra!
