Moorland Golf Tour

This tour brings together the immaculate Bovey Castle Golf Course, with the courses surrounding the Teign Estuary area. For this example tour we have selected to use Stover and Dainton Park, but you could quite as easily switch in Teignmouth, Torquay or The Warren and keep drive time to a minimum.

Your home for the tour will be the lovey Moorland Hotel near Bovey Tracey. It’s location between the courses mean you can take in Bovey Castle without paying the 5-red-star room prices. This 4* hotel offers a bar, restaurant, sun terrace, free Wi-Fi and parking.

Course overview

Set in 125 acres of Devon countryside, Dainton Park opened for play in 1993. The golf course was designed by architect Adrian Stiff (also of The Players Club & The Kendleshire) and has matured into one of the top golf courses in the region.

At 6,400yds off the competition tees, Dainton Park can cope with all manner of tournament golf. In 2016 it was selected by the Devon County Golf Union to host the Devon Amateur Championship, which saw the very best local golfers competing for the county’s most prestigious title.

From the yellow tees the challenge is more mild. At 5,772yds it is still a test, but there are far fewer carries over water and rough ground compared to the elevated back tees.

Whatever your ability, Dainton Park has a golf course to suit your game. With a fleet of buggies, driving range, bar and restaurants all on-site, Dainton Park is a great addition to your Devon golf tour.

Course overview

Stover Golf Club offers fantastic golf in a peaceful and tranquil setting on the edge of the town of Newton Abbott. Ideally located just a stone’s throw from the M5, this course is considered to be one of the finest parkland courses in the region, featuring a wide variety of different holes that take advantage of the mature trees, streams and ponds that are naturally dotted throughout.

The course runs shorter than most at just 5,959 yards but easily makes up for this with its challenging design, particularly the back-9, where it can be very difficult to maintain a good score.

The course is known for being kept in outstanding condition all year round by the tireless greenkeeping staff.

The local area

Set on the moors outside of Bovey Tracey, the Moorland Hotel certainly is not for groups wanting a town centre location, but what it lacks in goings on, it makes up for in peaceful surroundings and an ideal spot to bring together Bovey Castle and the wonderful courses of the Teign Estuary such as Stover, Teignmouth, Dainton Park and Dawlish Warren.

Haytor is a very small gateway village to Bovey Tracey, it does however include a lovely pub 5 minutes walk away called the Rock Inn which guests may wish to visit for an evening during their time at Moorland.

  • Can we make changes to our break?

Managing a group can be a thankless task and changes to the group leading up to your break are an accepted element. We make changes as stress free as possible (just see our reviews for evidence of this!). Changes can be made up to 6 weeks prior to your break. Some changes are unavoidable so for legitimate reasons we will endeavour to make last minute changes after this period, but as we would have paid our venues at this point, this would be at the discretion of the venue(s) you are visiting.

  • How are package prices displayed on our website?

Prices on our our website are displayed in two ways. The first is on our Resort pages where pricing tables show the from prices for low, mid and high season golf stay and play package rates at golf resort venues.

The second is on our example tour package pages. There are often 4 prices shown here, two for low season and two for high season. The struck through price typically shows the highest price the tour can be and is often active over weekends in that season. The offer price is typically a mid week price.

Every tour quote we offer is bespoke and will vary based on a number of factors including the date, availability, group size, room type, time of day for the tee time, etc… Our package pricing is a guide to the cost of the package and is not a firm price. Please enquire for an exact cost.

We aim to provide as accurate a price as possible and therefore try to avoid using shoulder/mid season pricing or twilight green fee rates when displaying rates. You may find an intermediate price for breaks in months of April & October at certain venues.
