Course overview
For an unforgettable golfing experience that’s steeped in history, you can’t beat the Old Course at St Pierre Golf Club in Wales. Designed by the legendary Willie Fernie, the Old Course has played host to numerous world-class events since it opened in 1962, making it a must-visit destination for golfers from all over the world.
Over the years, the course has seen multiple upgrades and renovations, all while maintaining its reputation as one of the most challenging and picturesque courses in Wales. The course’s unique layout, with valleys, doglegs, and tree-lined fairways, ensures that every hole is an exciting and demanding test for golfers of all skill levels.
The Old Course has many feature holes that are not to be missed. One such hole is the 10th, a 371-yard par-4 that requires a precise drive down a narrow fairway that’s bordered by trees on both sides. The green is also protected by bunkers, making accuracy key to scoring well. Another standout hole is the 16th, a 476-yard par-5 that demands a long and accurate tee shot to set up a chance for a birdie. The green is guarded by a water hazard, adding to the challenge and beauty of the hole.
And it’s not just the course itself that makes St Pierre such a popular golfing destination. The club boasts not one but two stunning courses to choose from, each with its own character and challenges. But it’s not just the courses that impress at St Pierre—the facilities and hospitality are second to none, ensuring that your stay is a truly memorable one.
And then there’s the history. The Old Course at St Pierre has seen countless iconic moments in golf, from Ian Woosnam’s victory in the 1983 PGA Championship, to the Solheim Cup matches in 1996 and 1998. Walking the same fairways as some of the greatest golfers of all time is a truly humbling experience, and one that you won’t forget in a hurry.
The Old Course is often played as part of a St Pierre Resort stay and play break, however we are pleased to incorporate the course into South Wales and North Bristol golf trips. The course is based just 20 minutes from both and Cardiff.
So, if you’re looking for a golfing experience that combines history, challenge, and world-class amenities, look no further than St Pierre Golf Club.
