A parkland, woodland, heathland combination set alongside fantastic golf resort facilities
Old Thorns Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort is an elegant and highly regarded resort destination that boasts 150 modern bedrooms, an 18-hole championship course and state-of-the-art health club and spa facilities, all set within the beautiful surroundings of the South Downs National Park.
Golf at Old Thorns is of the highest quality, the par-72 championship course was opened in 1982 and has seen some of the World’s best players walk its fairways. The mix of quality accommodation, off-course facilities and beautiful golf course has seen Old Thorns become one of the leading golf break destinations in the South of England.
The course at Old Thorns Resort is a Peter Alliss & Dave Thomas parkland design that provides an interesting test of golf from start to finish. The course takes you on a journey through Hampshire woodland which very clearly has moorland and parkland elements throughout. The designers had recently come off the back of designing the famous Brabazon Course at The Belfry, so Old Thorns was in exceptional hands!
Thanks to the connections of owner Ken Wood (of the Kenwood food mixer), the course was opened in 1982 with a 4 ball of Bill Rogers, Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus and Isao Ioki!
From the back tees, the championship course runs out at just past 6,500 yards culminating in a par 72. The course is surrounded by mature trees, natural springs and lakes, which provide a beautiful setting for golf. This is ultimately a resort course, so is often set up to allow for golfers of all levels to enjoy and complete without being beaten up.
This course is perfect as part of an East Hampshire tour or as a stand-alone stay and play break, staying on-site at the excellent Old Thorns Hotel.
