The Belfry Hotel & Golf Resort

Resort overview

Why book your Belfry trip with Golf South West?

The Belfry Hotel & Resort is a legendary destination in golf. It has played host to more Ryder Cup’s than any other venue in World golf. The resort boasts 3 award-winning courses, with the Brabazon providing us with some of the most dramatic moments in the history of our sport. The immaculate courses are accompanied by a luxurious resort that draws in golfers and non-golfers from all over the World.
The Belfry is a luxurious resort located in the royal town of Sutton Coldfield, featuring three award-winning golf courses, state of the art practice facilities, modern spa and numerous restaurants and bars and even a nightclub to enjoy during your stay! The resort is steeped in golfing history having played host to more Ryder Cups than any other venue in the world (1985, 1989, 1993, 2002), and is one of the main contenders to host the event again in 2026.

The original course, The Brabazon, was designed by Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss and opened for play in 1970. Since then the 7,200 yard Par-72 has become the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup. The parkland course is designed to challenge golfers of every level, is immaculately maintained and has drainage that allows it to be playable at any time of the year. The Brabazon’s younger sibling, The PGA, is a championship course that opened in 1997, runs at just over 7,000 yards and provides another spectacular golfing experience.

If these two stunning courses were not enough, a third course, The Derby is an inland links course that perfectly complements the two championship courses and offers a different and less strenuous golfing experience.

Outside of the golf, The Belfry Hotel & Resort offers a complete package of indulgence, with state of the art spa facilities, no less than 6 restaurants and bars, a hotel with 300 beautifully designed bedrooms and courteous and experienced staff ready to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.

The Belfry Hotel & Resort is a must-visit venue for golfers and non-golfers alike.

Course overview

The Brabazon course at the legendary Belfry Hotel & Resort needs no introduction, steeped in Ryder Cup history the Brabazon has hosted the annual showdown between the EU and US 3 times, more than any other course. Being the mecca of golf for many, there is a certain energy in the air when you visit the Belfry, with much of the excitement coming from walking this famous course and playing all of the memorable holes you may have seen throughout the years. Two of the most memorable of theses holes are the 10th and 18th, both par 4s boasting dangerous water features/ The 10th is a unique hole with water running along the side of the fairway, measuring only 300 yards this hole is driveable for the big hitters, but you will need distance and accuracy as the water along the right side of the fairway will be ready to swallow any wayward tee shots. The dramatic 18th hole is another par 4 totally dominated by water, giving you the opportunity to cut the corner as much as you want to put yourself into a better position for your second, but again any inaccurate shots will be quickly punished. This hole has seen many of the most dramatic moments in Ryder Cup history, for this reason and to follow in the footsteps of some of the sports legends, The Brabazon is a must visit course for anyone

Course overview

The Belfry is one of England’s most revered golfing destinations, with three quality courses to enjoy, one of those being the Dave Thomas designed PGA National. The youngest course at the Belfry opened up for play in 1997 and was the first course in Europe to carry PGA branding, the course stretches 7,053 yards from the yellows or a far more manageable 6,153 yards from the whites. Extensive work has been carried out on the site, adding 4 lakes and well placed greenside sand-traps, creating a course where you need to hit the ball accurately and avoid as many hazards as possible. The course has a inland links feel, with hard and fast running fairways, large undulating greens and it’s 70 bunkers strategically placed on every hole, creating a unique golfing challenge set amongst a stunning woodland backdrop. Due to many of the design aspects of the course being tailored towards hosting large events, you will see many elevated areas that offer fantastic views of the course and the amphitheater like approach to the par 5 12th. All in all the PGA National offers a meticulously designed course at one of the country’s most prestigious golfing resorts and is a must visit for any golfer!

Course overview

Opened in 1977 the Derby course is a 6,057 yard, par 69 parkland course and is one of 3 courses available at the legendary Belfry Hotel & Resort. The course is designed to be suitable for players of all levels and offers a slightly more gentle challenge than the PGA & Brabazon courses.

Designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, the course is a beautiful and open parkland course which features strategic bunkers, several water hazards and a number of well designed holes that can reward risk-taking players. Overall this is a fantastic course that offers a great round to all golfers and perfectly compliments the more difficult Brabazon and PGA courses.
