The memory of Danny Willett’s 2016 green jacket triumph is now etched in our minds and secured into the history books. Many of the tours finest have already moved onto this weeks’ events Valderrama Open De Espana Hosted By Sergio Garcia and RBC Heritage on their respective tours. This means the golf season is well and truly underway.
The thoughts in the minds of golfers all over the country are of sunshine, manicured greens and slashing that handicap. It is usually this time of year that those regular Saturday 4 balls start to think about their spontaneous golf trip for 2016. Will it be May? Maybe July? Or perhaps we’ll beat the rush and go for September? – Side note here: September is actually the busiest month for UK golf travel!
Then the attention turns to where… Even for a small group there is often far too many fantastic options. If you are looking at a weekend, the most popular destinations such as Celtic Manor or The Belfry are all but booked up, a Bournemouth tour is often subject to the same fate and the Southport coast just seems way out of budget.
This year we here at Golf South West we would like to shamelessly promote Cornwall as your summer destination. Many of us venture South for our family vacation, but what about with your golfing partners?
In terms of location you can stay anywhere from the stunning setting of Mullion, to the party atmosphere of Newquay, to the beauty of Padstow. Accommodation can offer you the homely feel at Bradleigh Lodge, the luxury of Carlyon Bay or the town centre setting of The White Hart.
The main attraction of the golf is surely the true draw of Cornwall. Whilst the drive may be a little further for many groups, the sheer value of the product has to be seen to be believed.
St Enodoc is regularly ranked inside the top 100 courses in the world and at the right time can set you back as little as £45! Trevose often plays host to the South West and occasionally England’s top amateur events. Perranporth and Mullion can offer you phenomenal links golf at a price which is unrivaled by any other coast line in England. Away from the coast Tehidy Park is an immaculate parkland design which never leaves a guest disappointed, and its a similar story at the established Launceston golf course.
Finally, 5 minutes over the Tamar bridge sits St Mellion International. The 12 time European Tour venue is perhaps one of Jack Nicklaus’ finest works and has a beautiful 4* hotel to match. Words cannot do this venue justice, have a look at the photos on our website, submit that enquiry and we promise you’ll be surprised at the price!
Cornwall may not be your first choice for your annual golf get away… But as you struggle with availability for those big name venues, give Kernow a try… You will NOT be disappointed!
